« back to entries list

During the last 18 months Tina,22, has helped turn a grass roots charity project into the UK’s biggest Social Enterprise catering for BMX, inline, skateboarding and urban sub cultural activities. She now manages the facility – which has had over 40,000 visits in the past 18 months - and its 10 staff, as well as working with volunteers. She has also developed her individual business skills by attending numerous training courses. The judges were impressed at how much Tina has achieved in such a short period.

  • I am a 44 year old mother of a son who has a brain tumour and worked for various companies and with young people. I have never come across a young adult who has and continues to develop, learn, communicate and understand the value of other people and contributes so much of her time and herself to improve the young people and the community in which she lives. She never looks for praise and very often does not realise what she is achieving in her role at The Alley.

She is confident and tireless in her efforts to support the charity. She is enthusiastic to learn more about developing a Social Enterprise to develop ideas and grow for the future.

She is a very popular member of the community within her own age group and always tries to support local talent by attending events. She is a testament to all young adults willing to improve and develop, for herself and others while creating a stable and loving environment for her family and friends.

Tina has faced some extreme challenges and has overcome hurdles that most would not experience in a lifetime. She has been challenged in her role on many occasions but continues to achieve the best results she can.

  • Tina and the others at the Alley do a fantastic job and I think unlike many parks, theyll be around for a long long time because theyve really got their heads screwed on.

I had a nasty accident where i broke a big bit of my tibia off and Tina was the one who was there for me and took great care of me and kept me calm when I was really in a pretty bad state. She did a great job, far better than I could of had I been in her shoes and she really deserves it!!!!!!!!!!

  • Tina has always surprised me by her mature forth-right attitude that you don't see in alot of people at her age. Her dedication, hard work, and compassion have touched many lives and will continue to do so in the years to come!

  • Tina would work 24/7 at the skate park if she was needed and not even relise shes done it. She loves the park, the kids and the adults. And they love her back. Tina has told me she apprciates the training the park provides and i think she proves this applying herself to learn new skills and appying new skills to the park.

Well done laydee, you deserve to win!!
