  • Gordon’s work in transforming the lives of unemployed people through social enterprise makes him stand out. His work to develop the apprentice model into a viable brand and business opportunity not only for other regions in the UK, but also for other industry sectors – including the hotel and leisure industry, makes him an outstanding candidate for the 2008 award. Gordon has successfully worked to bring together the strengths of all stakeholders from the public, private and voluntary sector to effect social change and make a real difference in the lives of disadvantaged people across the UK.

In 2008 alone Gordon will oversee the opening of another apprentice restaurant operation in Dartmouth, with built in accommodation for homeless people, and a leisure focused enterprise in Southwark, designed to provide a quality service for the local community as well as quality training to benefit individuals and local businesses. These enterprises will support xx more trainees per year, and turn a projected profit of XXXX over the next two years to support the charity’s work. He will also continue to develop the apprentice model and brand, rolling it out to areas of need.

This award will not only reward Gordon D’Silva for his work encouraging social enterprise, but it will also award his team both at Training For Life and each current enterprise for the work they do to support his vision. This is a group of people dedicated to the transformation of people’s lives, supporting over 1000 people per year to progress into more positive lifestyles.
